Knowing the difference between the legitimate and scam work from home job offers can mean the difference between a successful job hunt and falling prey to con artists.

Legitimate work from home jobs do exist. Millions of people now work from the comfort of their own home in a wide range of fields that include customer service, reservations, writing, data processing, processing orders, sales, appointment setting and posting ads on web pages – just to name a few. In fact, many companies are now using a growing number of work at home employees to handle jobs that used to be completed in-house. The reason for this is basic economics. By using work at home employees the company no longer has the overhead of office buildings, electricity and other related employee expenses. It is a win-win situation for everyone.

Legitimate work from home companies are not going to promise the opportunity to make exorbitant amounts of money per month while working only part-time with little or no experience required. If a job offer includes these exaggerations, it is probably a scam. All legitimate companies will treat a work from home job with the same professionalism as any traditional job. They will normally require background information about education, prior work experiences and skills. Depending upon the type of job, they may also require passing a test or submitting examples of your past work as part of the application process. They will also be honest about how you can earn money, the realistic hours required for the job and other important details that they will put in writing on their website or in a formal contract.
They Will Not Ask for Money or Personal Information
One of the biggest flags that a work from home job offer is a scam is the request for money or personal information before you will be considered for the position. Legitimate companies will never request any kind of up-front payment or ask for personal information until you have been hired. They will treat the application process with the same professionalism as other jobs because they know that, by law, they cannot defraud you of money or personal information while you are being considered for a job. If a company requests an up-front application fee or extensive personal information before you are hired, it is a scam.
They Will Pay Fairly
Legitimate work from home companies will be very clear about how much you will be paid for your work and how you will receive your payments. They will also be honest in their information if they require a minimum balance in your account before they will forward payments. Most will pay through bank transfers or checks. If a company does not provide clear information on how and when you will be paid, it is probably a scam.
Finding legitimate work from home jobs takes time, patience and persistence. Treat your search the same as you would when looking for any professional position. Check the reputation of all companies you are considering applying to and, if they are not clear about the job structure or pay, ask them questions before committing to anything. Legitimate companies will have no problem providing the requested information. And always keep in mind that if the job sounds too good to be true, it probably is. After all, if someone could actually make thousands of dollars per month working only part-time wouldn’t everyone be doing it?
